Residential Basketball Court Installation
A backyard basketball court is the perfect compliment to a well designed residential landscape. The halfcourt perfectly combines utility, beauty, increase in home value, plus a decrease in maintenance and water usage! Throughout our 3 generations we have built thousands of backyard courts throughout the Intermountain West and take pride in designing the perfect court for every size yard & budget.
Outdoor Basketball Court Sizing
Backyard halfcourts can range in size from 20’ x 25’ to 40’ x 60’ depending on space and budget. The most common layout for a halfcourt is 30’ x 50’ which allows for a full 3 point line with space to shoot. A 30’ x 50’ layout is also the minimum size recommended for multi-sport use (if preferred) which can include net sports such as pickleball, volleyball, & badminton.
Backyard fullcourts can range from 30’ x 60’ (partial 3 point lines) to 60’ x 90’ (regulation highschool fullcourt plus out-of-bounds). Once we have an idea for the space constraints we design a fully custom layout based on the needs of the family and allotted budget.
Regardless of a halfcourt or fullcourt layout we prefer to position the hoop on the North (1st choice) or East (2nd choice) side of the court if possible. This limits the amount of sun glare while shooting a basket. Other factors such as view from the home, yard layout, and property lines are also taken into account when choosing a location and orientation.
Construction & Installation of Outdoor Basketball Court
Based on the amount of available space in the yard and allotted budget we work with the homeowner to establish the most ideal court layout and location. We then provide a bid along with renderings to help illustrate how the court will fit into and complement the backyard and home. Once we have approval, the real fun begins!
The first step of the court construction process is prepping for the concrete court slab. If the homeowner opts to utilize our concrete team we assist in handling all aspects of the concrete work including the setting of the anchors (hoop, fencing, light, etc). The concrete is then poured to the recommended specifications (compacted road base, 4” slab with rebar, 0.5% slope). The entire concrete process typically only takes 1- 2 days on-site!
Once the court slab is in place we are ready for the sport finishes. Our world class installation team arrives with all materials (court surfacing, hoop, light, fencing, etc) and masterfully transforms the court slab into a custom dream court. The final step is the painting of the basketball game lines which is typically performed on-site. Once the lines are cured (48 hours) the court is officially ready for play!
The entire construction process (concrete slab + sport finishes) typically takes only 2 – 4 days!

Indoor Basketball Court Installation
Indoor home gyms have spiked in popularity over the last 10 years due to their functionality and year-round utility. Nearly 15 years ago we began working with several prominent Utah homebuilders to present the idea of indoor home courts (at the time they were extremely rare). Today, nearly every Parade of Homes features a handful of indoor home gyms and we design and build nearly as many indoor home courts as backyard ourts every year!

Location & Sizing of Indoor Basketball Court
Indoor home gyms are often located beneath a suspended garage slab (same footprint as the 2 – 4 car garage above) and range from 16’ – 23’ in ceiling height. We are also seeing more home gyms built above grade as an addition to the home. Lastly, a third option is a backyard structure (pole barn or framed sports barn) to enclose the gym.
The sizing ranges from a 20’ x 25’ halfcourt (slightly oversized 2 car garage), to multi-sport (30’ x 50’ – 30’ x 60’), to regulation fullcourts. We often assist in the design phase of the home to help determine the most ideal gym layout based on the sports and budget.

Outdoor Basketball Court Facilities
Many first fall in love with basketball while shooting hoops at a playground or neighborhood park! These courts also serve as a pillar for communities and a pivotal area of recreation. We have enjoyed constructing courts across the Intermountain West at universities, parks, corporate campuses, elementary schools, churches, and more. We also had the pleasure of working with the Utah Jazz to create a custom 35’ x 50’ halfcourt utilized by fans outside of the Delta Center.

We had a 25 year old plastic SportCourt playing surface that we were playing pickleball on. It was okay but as we got better, it became apparent that it was not a great surface. Originally, we were going to replace the plastic tile but after consulting more pickleball players and Pinnacle we opted to switch to the acrylic playing surface. It has made all the difference in the world and our neighbors couldn’t be happier with the upgrade.
